Ilafa Likolo Arthure: A Craftsmans Story
by Thatcher Bean, The Democratic Republic of the Congo

Built almost entirely of materials and labor sourced on the hard-to-access site, the Ilima School embodies our ethos of Lo-Fab [local fabrication] that is inherently sustainable. Local artisans and architects experimented with modified earth mixes for brick creation and collaborated with local conservationists to identify the most appropriate individual trees for the building’s walls and roof shingles, sourcing all components of these building materials from within miles of the school site.
